$3 Million Central Iowa Prize Still Unclaimed After 1 Month

CLIVE, Iowa — A $3 million prize is still unclaimed a month after it was won, and the Iowa Lottery is reminding players to check their tickets.

The winning Mega Millions® ticket was purchased at Kwik Star, 1200 Chatham Ave. in Norwalk. It matched the first five numbers in the Nov. 11 drawing to win the $3 million prize and was just one number away from claiming the jackpot, missing only the Mega Ball.

The winning numbers that night were 10-13-40-42-46 and Mega Ball 1. The Norwalk ticket was just one of three in the country to win a prize of $3 million or more in that drawing. A ticket purchased in New York also won $3 million, while a ticket purchased in Arizona won $5 million.

In the $5 Mega Millions game, players choose their first five numbers from a pool of 70, and another number — the Mega Ball — from a separate pool of 24. The game features a built-in multiplier for each play that multiplies non-jackpot prizes by up to 10 times.

Prizes of this size must be claimed at the Iowa Lottery's main office in Clive. The lottery's offices are open Monday through Friday, and appointments are strongly encouraged. To make an appointment or contact the lottery with questions, call 515-725-7900 or email wmaster@ialottery.com

Mega Millions prizes won in Iowa must be claimed within 180 days of the drawing.

While it's not entirely unusual for a prize like this to be unclaimed after a month, it does raise the possibility that the ticket holder doesn't yet know he or she is a big winner. That's why the lottery is continuing to share the reminder in hopes that the winner-to-be will soon experience the discovery of a lifetime.
