Des Moines Man Wins $293,000 InstaPlay Lottery Jackpot

Ryan Lundholm Claims Prize In “Blank Check Progressive” Game

CLIVE, Iowa — A Des Moines man turned his string of winning tickets into a much bigger lottery prize of more than $293,000.

“At first I bought a ticket on my way home from work. I think I won $200,” Ryan Lundholm said. “I went back, got another one. Cashed that ticket, got another one, ended up getting lucky.”

Lundholm, 48, purchased his jackpot-winning “Blank Check Progressive” InstaPlay ticket at Casey's, 4901 86th St. in Urbandale. He claimed his $293,522 prize on Friday at the lottery's main office in Clive.

Lundholm, who works as a landscape architect, plans to use his winnings to finish home improvements, pay off debt, travel, and add to his savings account.

He is the second person to win a jackpot in the Blank Check Progressive game since it debuted in November. Alex Youngs of Cedar Rapids won the first progressive jackpot prize of $60,029 in December.

Blank Check Progressive is a $30 game with a progressive jackpot that starts at $50,000 and increases with every ticket sold statewide until it is won.

InstaPlay games, which range in price from $1 to $30, combine features from instant-scratch and lotto games to give players an option with no numbers to pick, playslips to fill out or wait for a drawing. InstaPlay tickets are known as "scratchless" because they have no security coating that needs to be removed to determine the prize won. The tickets are printed on demand from the lottery terminal.
