CLIVE, Iowa — A Des Moines man said sleep has been hard to come by after he scratched off a $10,000 lottery prize.
"The past couple nights, it's been a little rough," Jacob Davidson said with a laugh on Wednesday as he claimed his prize at the lottery's main office in Clive.
Davidson, 33, won the big prize playing the Iowa Lottery's "Merry & Bright" scratch game on a ticket he purchased at Price Chopper, 3425 Ingersoll Ave. in Des Moines. Davidson works for a beer distributor, servicing large grocery stores in the area. After visiting the Price Chopper last week, he spotted the holiday-themed scratch tickets in the store's lottery kiosk.
He bought a few and took them home to scratch.
"I sat down, scratched the first one and it was a $10,000 winner," Davidson said. "I was jumping for joy, running around the house. I couldn't believe it, but I scanned it with the app on my phone, the Iowa Lottery app, and it verified it. I was ecstatic."
After claiming his prize, Davidson said he plans to put his winnings toward home improvements.
"I've got so many things on my mind of what I could use it for, but I think my biggest thing is going to be some home renovations, a new furnace in the house and some projects I've got to get taken care of," he said.
Merry & Bright is a $10 scratch game that features five top prizes of $100,000, 10 prizes of $10,000 and overall odds of 1 in 3.25.
From now until 9:59 a.m. on Jan. 7, players can enter nonwinning holiday-themed lottery tickets into a second-chance promotion for a chance to win a share of $1 million in cash prizes. For more information, visit ialottery.com.
