CLIVE, Iowa — A central Iowa woman who won a $10,000 InstaPlay prize said her mother didn't believe her until she sent photographic evidence of her big win.
"My mom was the first one I called and she thought I was lying," Lesli Rodriguez Valles, 25, of Des Moines, said with a laugh on Friday as she claimed her prize. "I sent her a screenshot. I was like, 'I'm not lying, Mom!'"
Rodriguez won a top prize in the "Instant Winnings" InstaPlay game on a ticket she bought at Casey's, 1006 SW Second Ave. in Indianola, where she stopped after a nail appointment.
Rodriguez, who works as a bank branch manager, checked the ticket when she got back to her pickup truck and thought she'd won $1,000 until she saw a 10X multiplier next to it.
She checked the ticket on the Iowa Lottery mobile app just to be sure and said she was in disbelief when she saw the $10,000 prize amount.
"'Is this real? Is the app down or something?'" she recalled saying. "It was exciting. It's definitely shocking, a moment of shock. You can't believe it."
Rodriguez said her mother began to believe her once she sent a photo of the ticket. She added that she plans to put her winnings toward paying down the balance on her vehicle.
InstaPlay combines features of scratch and lotto games. Tickets are printed on demand from lottery terminals rather than being pre-printed, and are sometimes called "scratchless" because there is no security coating to remove.
InstaPlay games range in price from $1 to $30. For more information, visit www.ialottery.com.
