Weeks Before Retirement, Clear Lake Woman Wins $30,000 Lottery Prize

CLIVE, Iowa — A Clear Lake woman has won a $30,000 lottery prize just three weeks before her planned retirement.

Donna Matlock won the first top prize in the Iowa Lottery's new “Pirate's Treasure” scratch game. The big win came on a ticket her husband, Mark, purchased for her at Kwik Star, 1006 N. 20th St. in Clear Lake.

She played the ticket a few days later and was in disbelief when she uncovered the $30,000 prize.

“I look and I'm like, 'No, this can't be!'” Matlock said with a laugh. “I asked my husband to scan it, and sure enough, it was $30,000!”

Matlock, a consultant for the Iowa Department of Education, said she plans to put her winnings toward an upcoming move after her retirement next month.

Pirate's Treasure is a $3 scratch game that features eight top prizes of $30,000 and overall odds of 1 in 3.51. For more information about this game, and the number of prizes still available, visit www.ialottery.com.
