Northern Iowa Woman's Lottery Intuition Pays Off

Jana Bleeker Claims $30,000 Top Prize In 'Max Cash' Scratch Game

CLIVE, Iowa - A northern Iowa woman said she had a feeling to buy a scratch ticket last week and her intuition ended up paying off.

Jana Bleeker of New Hartford claimed the last $30,000 top prize available in the Iowa Lottery's "Max Cash" scratch game.

The 54-year-old said she bought her winning ticket Friday at Casey's, 1312 W. Bremer Ave. in Waverly.

"Friday evening I said to my boyfriend, 'I feel lucky tonight; I'm going to buy a scratch-off ticket,'" Bleeker told lottery employees Monday as she claimed her prize at the lottery's regional office in Mason City.

Bleeker said she bought two tickets so that her boyfriend could scratch one off as well.

"He was actually the one that scratched (the $30,000-winning one) off and he said, 'You won $30,000!' And I said, 'No, I didn't. You're just messing with me.' And he says, 'No really, I did.'" Bleeker said.

The couple then took the winning ticket to a local convenience store to have it validated and when it was confirmed that the ticket won $30,000, they started to celebrate.

"About three weeks ago we won $50, so we felt that was pretty big stuff and this happened and we're just like, 'Are you kidding?'" Bleeker said.

Bleeker said she plans to save a majority of her winnings.

Sales in Max Cash, a $3 scratch game, have ended, but players still have time to claim prizes in it.
