Security Checks
At Iowa Retail Locations

On an ongoing basis, the Iowa Lottery conducts unannounced security checks at retail locations across the state to see how winning tickets are being handled. Agents from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation working undercover with investigators from the Iowa Lottery pose as customers presenting lottery tickets during the compliance checks.

The lottery is working hard to protect the integrity of its games, so be sure to take steps to protect yourself as well.

Because there have been problems with lottery-ticket redemption in other areas, we all must remain vigilant. For example, in some instances customers were told their winning tickets hadn’t won a prize; winning tickets were switched out for nonwinners; or players were paid a smaller amount than they'd actually won.

We will continue to conduct security compliance checks at retail locations in Iowa to guard against such issues here.
