New Games Released To Benefit Iowa Veterans' Causes, More Than $12 Million Raised So Far

DES MOINES, Iowa - The latest Iowa Lottery games to benefit Iowa veterans and their families have just been released while a new milestone has been achieved in total proceeds for the cause.

The "A 10 Hut" instant-scratch game started sales Jan. 3 while the "Veterans Amazing 8's" pull-tab game debuted Jan. 28. Tickets in both games, which each cost $1, are available at lottery retail outlets statewide and feature the logo of the Iowa Veterans Trust Fund to easily identify those games as being dedicated to veterans' causes.

"We're proud that our games are providing a stable, ongoing source of revenue for the Iowa Veterans Trust Fund," said Iowa Lottery CEO Terry Rich. "Iowa's veterans have served with dignity and excellence and now we can stand up for them by providing the Trust Fund with a reliable source of funding."

Rich noted that more than $12 million has been raised for the Veterans Trust Fund since the lottery began offering games dedicated to that cause.

Legislation approved in 2008 authorized the lottery's games to benefit the Iowa Veterans Trust Fund. The lottery creates two new instant-scratch games and two additional pull-tab games each year, with all proceeds from those games dedicated to the Veterans Trust Fund.

When the idea was initially discussed, the lottery estimated that the new games would provide about $2 million to $3 million in proceeds annually for the Veterans Trust Fund, and that threshold has been met or exceeded each year since.

The Veterans Trust Fund was established to provide state help to veterans and their families. Those interested in applying for assistance through the fund can contact their County Veterans Office or the Iowa Department of Veterans Affairs. Here is the department's contact information:
