$1 Million Powerball® Prize Won In Des Moines Area

Latest Big Prize Won With Ticket Purchased At Git-N-Go in Urbandale

DES MOINES, Iowa - There's big news for someone who made a Powerball purchase at a Des Moines-area convenience store: The ticket won a $1 million prize in Saturday night's drawing.

The lucky ticket, purchased at Git-N-Go, 8701 Hickman Road in Urbandale, came close to winning at least a share of Saturday's $330.8 million jackpot, matching the first five numbers but missing the Powerball. No one matched all six numbers to win Saturday's jackpot, so the big prize climbs to an estimated $400 million annuity ($227.8 million cash option) for Wednesday.

Saturday's winning numbers were: 2-9-14-21-23 and Powerball 3. The Power Play number was 3. The Urbandale ticket was one of nine across the country that each won a $1 million prize in Saturday's drawing, while a ticket sold in Texas won a $2 million prize because whoever bought it also added the Power Play option to the purchase. The Power Play option multiplies the Match 5 prize from $1 million to $2 million.

Prizes of $1 million must be claimed at Iowa Lottery headquarters in Des Moines. The lottery's offices are closed on weekends, so the earliest the winner or winners will be able to claim the prize is Monday. If the winner or winners need information before coming forward to claim the prize, they are invited to call the lottery at 515-725-7900.

The last $1 million-winning Powerball ticket sold in Iowa hit in November and is still unclaimed three months later. That ticket, sold at Kum & Go, 2050 Iowa Highway 38 in Tipton, matched the first five numbers but missed the Powerball in the Nov. 16 drawing. The lottery reminds its players to double-check their tickets for any prize they may have won.

Players in $2 Powerball choose their first five numbers from a pool of 59, and another number - called the Powerball -- from a separate pool of 35. The Power Play® option is available for an extra $1 per play.

Since getting its start in April 1992 in 15 states with jackpots that started at a guaranteed $2 million, Powerball has grown into one of the world's biggest and most recognizable lottery games. Today Powerball is played by 45 lotteries across the country with drawings at 9:59 p.m. on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
