Time Is Running Out For $10,000-Winning Powerball® Ticket Sold In Council Bluffs

Last Day To Claim Prize Is May 11, Players Urged To Double-Check Their Tickets

DES MOINES, Iowa - The deadline is approaching for an unclaimed $10,000-winning Powerball ticket sold in Council Bluffs, and the Iowa Lottery is reminding players to double-check their tickets to see if they have the big winner.

Other lotto prizes of up to $100,000 also remain unclaimed in Iowa and will expire in the coming months if the winners do not claim them in time.

"Wherever you keep your tickets, double-check them. Some big prizes are on the line," Iowa Lottery CEO Terry Rich said Wednesday.

The $10,000-winning ticket was sold at No Frills Supermarket, 1817 W. Broadway in Council Bluffs, for the Powerball drawing on Wednesday, May 11, 2011. It came close to winning it all, matching four of the first five numbers and the Powerball to win a $10,000 prize. The winning numbers that night were: 9-17-32-43-45 and Powerball 31.

The winner or winners have until the close of business at 4 p.m. on May 11 to claim the prize at a lottery office. The Iowa Lottery has offices in Council Bluffs, Storm Lake, Mason City, Des Moines and Cedar Rapids.

In fiscal year 2011, nearly $1.4 million in prizes went unclaimed in Iowa lotto games. Unclaimed prizes in Iowa go into prize pools for future lottery games.

Rich said that with the recent big jackpot runs in Powerball and Mega Millions®, a lot of people have bought tickets and now they need to remember to check to see if they've won a prize.

"Our big-jackpot games always get attention, and it's easy to understand why," Rich said. "But in addition to the jackpot, there are several other prize levels in our games, so be sure to check your tickets for those, too."

Players in Iowa have up to 365 days from the date of the drawing to claim prizes in Powerball, Mega Millions and Hot Lotto®. Players have up to 90 days from the date of the drawing to claim prizes in Iowa's $100,000 Cash Game and the Iowa Lottery's Pick 3 and Pick 4 games. If the expiration date falls on a weekend or holiday when the lottery's offices are closed, the winner has until the close of business on the next business day to turn in the ticket.

Tickets for these major Iowa Lottery prizes also have yet to be claimed and will expire this year if the winner does not come forward in time:
