Hy-Vee And The Iowa Lottery Team Up To Honor Our Nation's Veterans
DES MOINES, Iowa - Hy-Vee stores and the Iowa Lottery are teaming up for some special contests this Veterans Day.
On Monday, Nov. 12, Iowa Hy-Vee locations with kitchens will host their free annual breakfast for veterans. During those breakfasts, many of the stores also will hold contests that Hy-Vee shoppers can enter to win up to $25 in veterans-themed scratch tickets courtesy of the Iowa Lottery. Prizes of $10, $15 and $25 in "Veterans Silver 6s" instant-scratch tickets will be awarded to three winners at each of the participating Hy-Vee locations.
"We've teamed up with Hy-Vee these past couple of years and are honored to be able to do so again this year for Veterans Day," Iowa Lottery CEO Terry Rich said. "This is just another way we can say, 'Thank you,' to Iowa veterans and their families."
During the free breakfast events on Nov. 12, everyone at participating Hy-Vee stores can enter the contests. Contest winners' names will be posted at the participating stores and on the Iowa Lottery's website at www.ialottery.com.
"We take great pleasure in being able to recognize our nation's veterans with a free breakfast each year," said Isaac Wiese, Hy-Vee director of merchandising. "Being able to add the lottery contests to the mix just makes it that much more fun for our patrons."
Proceeds from two instant-scratch games and two pull-tab games each year are dedicated to the Iowa Veterans Trust Fund to benefit our state's veterans and their families. The Iowa Lottery has raised more than $12 million for the cause since 2008.
The newest instant-scratch game dedicated to the Veterans Trust Fund is the $1 "Veterans Silver 6s" game while the latest pull-tab to benefit the cause is "Forever Free," also a $1 game.
The Iowa Veterans Trust Fund was created to provide assistance to qualified veterans and their families to help pay for expenses such as: unemployment or underemployment assistance due to service-related causes; assistance with vision, hearing, dental care, durable medical equipment, and prescription drugs; counseling and substance abuse services; housing repair; and transitional housing in an emergency.
