New Option Begins This Month For Players To Watch Drawings Live
Or On Demand
DES MOINES, Iowa - Powerball players in Iowa and around the
nation will soon have a new option for checking their tickets:
They'll be able to watch the game's drawings live on the
Internet.
Iowa Lottery CEO Terry Rich noted that Powerball players already
have several options for checking their tickets: They can watch
the drawings live on television, check the winning numbers on
the lottery's Web site at www.ialottery.com, check drawing
results in the local newspaper, listen for lottery results on
local radio stations, visit a lottery retailer to get a
print-out of winning numbers from the lottery terminal, or call
a lottery office for the information.
But Rich said that with more and more people turning to the
Internet for information, adding a livestream of the drawings
makes perfect sense.
"Adding live drawings on the Internet will allow millions of
additional players to watch the drawings while they're happening
and find out whether they've won a prize," Rich said. "We're
always looking for new, effective ways to communicate with the
public and this is a great new way to provide information as it
happens."
With Powerball drawings taking place every Wednesday and
Saturday night, the number of players looking for Powerball
results reaches into the tens of millions for each draw.
Powerball's jackpots have reached as high as $365 million.
The game's drawings will begin being livestreamed this month on
www.powerball.com. Previous drawings will be archived for online
viewing. The Iowa Lottery's Web site also will link to the
drawings results.
The livestreaming is being conducted through an agreement
between the Urbandale-based Multi-State Lottery Association,
which administers the Powerball game on behalf of the lotteries
that participate in it, and Pensacola, Fla.,-based TinBu, LLC.
TinBu uses patent-pending technology to provide interactive data
products to leading online and wireless companies worldwide.
TinBu will connect directly with the Powerball studio at
Universal Orlando Resort in Orlando, Fla., and has secured
delivery bandwidth through Navisite that will allow hundreds of
thousands of simultaneous online viewers of the live Powerball
drawings. The system will automatically scale up as needed to
handle anticipated audience growth.
"TinBu is very excited to be adding this dynamic, in-demand
feature to our interactive lottery data content," said John
Brier, TinBu's CEO. "We provide lottery data to most of the
major online media groups in the United States, and we look
forward to giving our online publishing partners the opportunity
to add live Powerball drawings for their online audience to
view."
Powerball is played in Iowa, 30 other states, Washington, D.C.,
and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The game's drawings at 9:59 p.m. on
Wednesdays and Saturdays are televised in Iowa on these
stations:
- KWQC-TV in Davenport
- WOI-TV in West Des Moines
- KTVO-TV in Ottumwa
- KTIV-TV in Sioux City
- KWWL-TV in Waterloo.
