Hear Kylie tell her story.
DES MOINES, Iowa - An Iowa Falls woman filled her spare time before work by scratching a "Cash Bonanza" instant-scratch game and ended up winning the eighth out of 10 top prizes of $250,000 available in the game.
Kylie Newton, 30, said she typically stops into Handi Stop, 748 S. Oak St. in Iowa Falls before heading to work at Ultimate Expressions where she is a hairdresser for a soda and to chat with the clerks, but this stop was bit more exciting.
"Pretty much shock for the most part," Newton said.
Newton said she scratched her ticket a few weeks before claiming the prize on Jan. 28 at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Mason City, but she wanted to take her time to think about the prize.
"My mom and my aunt were both there and then I called my boyfriend right away," Newton said.
Newton said she chooses her tickets at random, but agrees she picked the right one this time!
"Yes, I sure did!" she said.
Newton is planning to use some of her winnings to pay bills as well as spend some on her two daughters, who are six and one.
