Ganea Wins Top Prize in "Set For Life" Scratch Game
DES MOINES, Iowa – A Dubuque man won the top prize of $1 million
playing the Iowa Lottery's "Set for Life" instant-scratch game.
Sorin Ganea claimed his prize Monday at the Iowa Lottery's
headquarters in Des Moines. Ganea bought his winning ticket at
Phillips 66, 10 S. Main St. in Dubuque.
Set for Life is a $20 scratch game with eight top prizes of $1
million. Players who win the top prize have the option of
receiving it as an annuity or lump-sum payment. If the winner
chooses to take the annuity, he/she will be paid $40,000 per
year for a period of 25 years.
Ganea chose the lump-sum payment, and he received $650,000
before taxes.
Two top prizes of $1 million are still up for grabs in the game,
along with four prizes of $10,000, more than 20 prizes of
$1,000, more than 50 prizes of $500 and more than 265 prizes of
$100.
Since the Iowa Lottery's start in 1985, its players have won
more than $2.4 billion in prizes while the lottery has raised
more than $1.2 billion for state programs.
