Robert Deibler Wins Big Prize Playing the "Cash Inferno" Scratch Game

  Hear Robert tell his story.

DES MOINES, Iowa - A northern Iowa man cashed in some winning lottery tickets for a "Cash Inferno" instant-scratch ticket and ended up winning a big lottery prize.

Robert Deibler of Garner claimed the sixth of nine prizes of $10,000 available in the Cash Inferno game.

Deibler said he typically doesn't buy $10 scratch tickets, but he decided to try one during a recent stop for gas at Garner Townmart, 260 W. U.S. Highway 18 in Garner.

"Told (the clerk) to pick me one out and they picked it and it was a good one," Deibler, 65, said.

Deibler, who is retired, said he took his ticket home and scratched it off.

"I could hardly believe it," he said. "I never even dreamed of getting something like that."

Deibler claimed his prize Wednesday at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Mason City.

Deibler said he and his wife, Diane, plan to use the lottery winnings to take a vacation this summer.

Cash Inferno is a $10 scratch game. Players scratch the "lucky symbols" and "your symbols" in each row. If a player matches the "2X, 5X or 10X your symbols" to the "lucky symbol," they win two, five or 10 times the prize shown for that row. Each row is played separately. The overall odds of winning a prize in the game are 1 in 3.11.

Two top prizes of $100,000 are still up for grabs in Cash Inferno, as well as three prizes of $10,000, 87 prizes of $1,000 and thousands of prizes from $100 to $300.
