Hear Samantha tell her story.
DES MOINES, Iowa - A Muscatine woman was in the car with her mother when she scratched her "Gemstone 10s" instant-scratch ticket and ended up winning the 14th of 24 of the game's top prizes of $100,000.
Samantha Newman, 26, said she wasn't at all expecting to win a prize that big.
"I scratched it in the parking lot," Newman said. "And then I was like, 'I won a hundred thousand!' And she was like, 'No you didn't,' so we went back in and had them scan it."
Newman, who works for a laundro-mat in Muscatine, said she has shared the news with all her family members and their close friends.
"They're like, 'Wow!'" Newman said.
Newman said she is planning to use some of her winnings to pay bills as well as help out family. She said this prize is truly a life-changing amount of money for her.
"It is," she said. "It really is."
Newman claimed her prize Tuesday at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids. She purchased her winning ticket at Mac's, 802 Cypress St. in Muscatine.
