DES MOINES, Iowa - A Bettendorf man used the money he won on instant-scratch tickets to purchase a "Money Magnet" ticket and ended up winning a $30,000 top prize.

Brian Tolbert, 31, said he purchased his ticket Sunday at Mother Hubbard's Cupboard, 3636 Hickory Grove Road in Davenport and scratched it off later that night. He said he couldn't believe what he saw.

"Truthfully I started crying," Tolbert told lottery employees as he claimed his prize Monday at the lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids.

Tolbert, a licensed tattoo artist, said he recently started playing the Money Magnet game and enjoys it.

"For some reason I like the pace that I can take my own time and scratch them," he said. "I don't have to rush anything."

Tolbert said his lottery winnings will be used to pay bills.

Money Magnet is a $3 scratch game. Players try to match any of "your numbers" to the numbers that match exactly in each of the four games in the playing area. If a player matches all of the numbers in a game, they win the prize shown for that game. Each game is played separately. The overall odds of winning a prize in the game are 1 in 3.73.

Five top prizes of $30,000 are still up for grabs in Money Magnet, along with 22 prizes of $1,000 and 176 prizes of $100.
