DES MOINES, Iowa - A central Iowa man has won big bucks playing an Iowa Lottery scratch game!

Kevin Frey of Madrid claimed a $10,000 prize playing the “$35 Million Cash Spectacular” instant-scratch game. He purchased the winning ticket at Kum & Go, 1910 S.W. White Birch Circle in Ankeny.

Frey claimed his prize at Iowa Lottery headquarters in Des Moines.

Frey, who works at McAninch Corporation, said he plays scratch games with a friend. They split the cost of the tickets as well as all prizes. His friend, who works at Firestone, is the one who purchases the tickets, while Frey scratches them.

The $35 Million Cash Spectacular is a $10 game. If a player matches any of “their numbers” to any “winning number,” they win the prize shown for that play area. If they find a “star” symbol, they win the prize shown instantly. The overall odds of winning in the game are approximately 1 in 3.

The $35 Million Cash Spectacular began with more than 1.4 million available prizes. Six top prizes of $250,000 are still up for grabs. Twenty-two prizes of $20,000, 48 prizes of $10,000, about 800 prizes of $1,000, approximately 2,300 prizes of $500, about 5,800 prizes of $200 and more than 23,000 prizes of $100 are also still available for players to claim.

Since the Iowa Lottery's inception in 1985, more than $2.1 billion has been awarded in prizes and more than $1.1 billion has been raised for state programs.
