Steve Canaday Wins in March 22 Hot Lotto Drawing
DES MOINES, Iowa - A Marshall County man is planning his next vacation thanks to a recent
$10,000 lottery win.
Steve Canaday, 60, of Marshalltown won $10,000 in the March 22 Hot Lotto® drawing. He
purchased the winning ticket at Hy-Vee Drugstore, 1712 S. Center St. in Marshalltown and claimed
his prize at Iowa Lottery headquarters in Des Moines.
“I had to have my daughter look at it to make sure [it was a winner],” he
said. “I double-checked four or five times.”
Canaday says he takes two fishing trips to Canada every year with his family - one in June and
one in July. He's already taken care of this year's trips, so he says he'll use his
prize money for next year's trips.
Hot Lotto players choose five numbers from a pool of 39 and another number, called the Hot
Ball, from a pool of 19. The Hot Lotto jackpot starts at $1 million and grows until someone wins it.
Tickets in the game cost $1. Hot Lotto drawings are held at about 9:40 p.m. on Wednesdays and
Saturdays, just before the Powerball drawings. Overall odds to win a prize are 1 in 16 and 1 in 10.9
million to win the jackpot.
Winning numbers for the March 22 Hot Lotto drawing were 12-14-28-30-33. The winning Hot Ball
was 7.
If Canaday had played the Hot Lotto Sizzler®, he would have won $30,000!
Players can increase their prizes by three times (except the jackpot) with the Hot Lotto Sizzler.
The cost is $1 per play. Prizes are always tripled with the Hot Lotto Sizzler.
Winning numbers may be checked by calling the lottery at (515) 725-7900 from 8 a.m. to 4:30
p.m. Winning numbers may also be checked through the winning numbers' hot line at
(515) 323-4633, at the lottery Web site at www.ialottery.com or with lottery retail outlets.
Since the Iowa Lottery's inception in 1985, more than $2.1 billion has been awarded in prizes
