WATERLOO MAN WINS A "LUCKY" $50,000

Richard Elefsrud Wins $50,000 Prize Playing “Double-Play” Lottery Game

DES MOINES, Iowa - An eastern Iowa man hit it big playing an Iowa Lottery scratch game!

Richard Elefsrud of Waterloo won $50,000 playing the “Twice Lucky” double-play game. He purchased the winning ticket at Jim Lind BP Service, 230 E. Ridgeway Ave. in Waterloo.

Elefsrud claimed his prize at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids.

Twice Lucky consists of an instant-scratch ticket on the front and a pull-tab game on the back. The ticket has three play areas on the front side. In the number match area, if a player matches their “Single” number to the “Lucky Number,” they win the prize shown for that game. If their “Double” number matches the “Lucky Number” in the same game, they win double the prize shown for that game. In the hidden symbol area, if the player finds a “2” in any spot, they win the prize shown below that number. If they get a “star” symbol, they win double the prize. In the symbol match area, if the player gets a “horseshoe” symbol in either row, they win the prize shown for that row. If they get two “horseshoe” symbols in the same row, they win double the prize shown for that row. In the pull-tab area on the back of the ticket, if the player matches three like symbols under the same ‘tab,’ they win the corresponding prize in the prize legend. Overall odds of winning are 1 in 4.

Thirteen top prizes of $50,000 have been claimed in the game. Four top prizes are still available, as well as approximately 25 prizes of $1,000, more than 80 prizes of $400 and more than 500 prizes of $80.

Since the Iowa Lottery's inception in 1985, more than $2.1 billion has been awarded in prizes and more than $1.1 billion has been raised for state programs.
