DES MOINES, Iowa - An Iowa City man said he used the prize money he received from some instant-scratch tickets to purchase a "Double Dollar Fortune" scratch ticket and the decision paid off.

Alex Gassman, 25, claimed the sixth of eight top prizes of $100,000 available in the Double Dollar Fortune game.

Gassman said he purchased his ticket April 14 at Hy-Vee Gas, 2025 Second St. in Coralville and scratched it off in the car with his fiancée, Kelsey.

"We were like, 'I think we just won big!'" Gassman told lottery employees as he claimed his prize Tuesday at the lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids.

Gassman said they went back into the store to have their ticket verified and when it was confirmed that is was a winning ticket, they started to celebrate.

"I think we were both just dancing around, calling everybody we knew," he said.

Gassman is originally from Cedar Rapids and just recently moved back to Iowa after living in New Jersey for several years, and Wisconsin for the last 10 months.

Gassman said his lottery winnings will be used to pay for his upcoming wedding and honeymoon.
