Arnold Bingaman Wins $100,000 in Wednesday Powerball Drawing

DES MOINES, Iowa - A central Iowa man didn't think twice about getting the Power Play® when he purchased his ticket for Wednesday's Powerball® drawing. His decision led to a $100,000 prize.

“I always get it!” said Arnold Bingaman, 35, of Urbandale. “I want to maximize my odds [to] get more money.”

Bingaman's theory paid off when he matched four numbers and the Powerball in Wednesday's drawing. Because Bingaman purchased the Power Play, he multiplied his $10,000 prize by 10 to win $100,000!

“I called up in the morning and kept checking my ticket and heard the numbers. I thought they sounded familiar, so I went and checked my ticket and there they were,” said Bingaman, who works as a self-employed contractor.

Bingaman purchased his ticket at Quik Trip, 1215 Sixth Ave. in Des Moines. The winning Powerball numbers for the April 23 drawing were: 11-20-21-22-39. The Powerball was 1. The Power Play multiplier was 10.

Bingaman claimed his prize Thursday at Iowa Lottery headquarters in Des Moines.

“This is the most I've ever won!” said Bingaman. “I might get a new vehicle -- a new truck -- and invest the rest.”

Bingaman won during the Iowa Lottery's Power Play 10X promotion. Powerball players can multiply their non-jackpot prizes up to 10 times when they purchase the Power Play option during the month of April.

Just before the Powerball numbers are drawn, the Power Play wheel is spun. Normally, slots on the wheel list the numbers 2 through 5, indicating the amount prizes (except the jackpot) will be multiplied if that number is drawn. The cost is $1 per play. Through April 30, one of the four “5s” on the Power Play wheel has been replaced by a “10.” At the end of the promotion, the “10” will be replaced by the original “5.” Jackpot prizes are not eligible for this promotion.

Four other tickets sold in Iowa for Wednesday's Powerball drawing won big prizes, but were not multiplied by the Power Play. Three of the tickets won $10,000 prizes, while one ticket won a $200,000 prize.

The $10,000 tickets were sold at the following locations:

  • Hy-Vee, 4035 Mount Vernon Road S.E. in Cedar Rapids
  • Kwik Star, 841 South St. in Jesup
  • Kum & Go, 5967 Ashworth Road in West Des Moines

The $200,000 ticket was sold at Mac's Express, 1101 11th St. in De Witt.
