CEDAR RAPIDS WOMAN WINS $10,000

Darcie Derby Wins in April 23 Powerball Drawing

DES MOINES, Iowa - A Linn County woman has claimed a large lottery prize.

Darcie Derby of Cedar Rapids won $10,000 in the April 23 Powerball® drawing. She purchased the winning ticket at Hy-Vee, 4035 Mt. Vernon Road S.E. in Cedar Rapids.

Derby claimed her prize at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids.

The winning Powerball numbers for the April 23 drawing were: 11-20-21-22-39. The Powerball was 1. The Power Play® multiplier was 10.

If Derby had played the Power Play option, she would have won $100,000!

Players can increase their prizes with the Power Play (except the jackpot) up to five times. The cost is $1 per play.

Just before the Powerball numbers are drawn, the Power Play wheel is spun. Normally, slots on the wheel list the numbers 2 through 5, indicating the amount prizes (except the jackpot) will be multiplied if that number is drawn. The cost is $1 per play.

For a limited time, one of the four “5's” on the Power Play wheel has been replaced by a “10.” That means Iowa Lottery players can multiply any prize they win by 10 times! For example, if a player wins a $100 prize and the Power Play number is “10,” that player would win $1,000. A $200,000 prize with a Power Play of “10” would be multiplied to $2 million! Jackpot prizes are not eligible for this promotion.

The Power Play 10X promotion began March 30 and runs through April 30. The promotion was to have run for nine drawings if the “10” wasn't hit or until the “10” on the Power Play wheel is hit at least once. The “10” has been hit twice so far during this year's promotion.

Winning numbers may be checked by calling the lottery at (515) 725-7900 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Winning numbers may also be checked through the winning numbers' hot line at (515) 323-4633, at the lottery Web site at www.ialottery.com or with lottery retail outlets.
