BRANDON MAN WINS $10,000

James Burton Wins in April 23 Powerball Drawing

DES MOINES, Iowa - A Buchanan County man has claimed a large lottery prize.

James Burton of Brandon won $10,000 in the April 23 Powerball® drawing. He purchased the winning ticket at Kwik Star, 841 South St. in Jesup.

Burton claimed his prize at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids.

The winning Powerball numbers for the April 23 drawing were: 11-20-21-22-39. The Powerball was 1. The Power Play® multiplier was 10.

If Burton had played the Power Play option, he would have won $100,000!

Players can increase their prizes with the Power Play (except the jackpot) up to five times. The cost is $1 per play.

Just before the Powerball numbers are drawn, the Power Play wheel is spun. Slots on the wheel list the numbers 2 through 5, indicating the amount prizes (except the jackpot) will be multiplied if that number is drawn.

From March 30 through April 30, one of the four “5's” on the Power Play wheel was replaced by a “10.” That means Iowa Lottery players could have multiplied any non-jackpot prize they won by 10 times! For example, if a player won a $100 prize and the Power Play number was “10,” that player would have won $1,000. A $200,000 prize with a Power Play of “10” would have been multiplied to $2 million!

The “10” was hit twice during this year's promotion.

Winning numbers may be checked by calling the lottery at (515) 725-7900 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Winning numbers may also be checked through the winning numbers' hot line at (515) 323-4633, at the lottery Web site at www.ialottery.com or with lottery retail outlets.

Since the Iowa Lottery's inception in 1985, more than $2.1 billion has been awarded in prizes and more than $1.1 billion has been raised for state programs.
