DES MOINES, Iowa - A Clinton woman has won the first $10,000 top prize in the Iowa Lottery's new "Mad Money" instant-scratch game.

Vicki White, 62, said a store clerk told her about the new scratch game Tuesday when she stopped at Express Lane, 1003 Eighth Ave. S. in Clinton. She decided to buy one and ended up winning the first of eight top prizes of $10,000 available in the game.

White, who is a retired sales clerk, said she took her ticket home and scratched it and couldn't believe that she had won, so she took her ticket back to the store to have it verified.

"I thought it must have been a mistake," White told lottery employees as she claimed her prize Wednesday at the lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids. "(The store) confirmed that I had won $10,000. It still took me a while to get it."

White said winning $10,000 was a memorable experience.

"It's an experience like no other," she said. "I mean when you win $10 or $20 you're excited. When you win $100 you get a little bit more excited. When I won $300 I was very excited and so when I saw this I thought, 'Oh, this can't be right!'"

White said she plans to save her winnings.

Mad Money is a $2 scratch game. If a player reveals the "bag" symbol, he or she wins the prize shown for that symbol. The overall odds of winning a prize in the game are 1 in 3.61.

Seven top prizes of $10,000 are still up for grabs in Mad Money, as well as eight prizes of $500 and 173 prizes of $100.
