DES MOINES, Iowa - A stop for sweet rolls at a local convenience store paid off recently for a Tama County woman.

Pam Bredehoeft of Dysart said she bought a "Super Crossword" instant-scratch ticket Saturday at Casey's, 201 Hwy. 21 in Dysart and ended up winning the seventh of 37 top prizes of $50,000 available in the game.

The 55-year-old scratched her ticket off when she got home and couldn't believe what she saw.

"As soon as I knew the last letter was an 'e,' I knew that something big was going to happen," she said.

Bredehoeft, who works at a grocery store in Dysart, didn't believe that she had won a $50,000 top prize, so she double-checked her scratch ticket multiple times.

"I gasped for air and walked around the house," Bredehoeft told lottery employees as she claimed her prize Monday at the lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids. "I had to wait four hours for my husband to get off work so I could tell somebody."

Bredehoeft said she eventually met up with her husband, Al, because she couldn't wait any longer. She said she had him double-check her winning ticket, and he confirmed that it was a $50,000 winner.

"He just put his hand up and gave me a high-five," she said.

Bredehoeft said she plans to pay off her vehicle loan and buy a new refrigerator with her lottery winnings.

Super Crossword is a $5 scratch game. Players win a prize by uncovering at least three complete words in either puzzle or the complete bonus word in the play area on each ticket. The overall odds of winning a prize in the game are 1 in 3.69.

Thirty top prizes of $50,000 are still up for grabs in Super Crossword, as well as 62 prizes of $5,000, 99 prizes of $500 and 877 prizes of $100.
