Peggy Houseman Wins Top Prize Playing the "Goin' Green"
Scratch Game
DES MOINES, Iowa – A Dallas County woman's lottery winning
streak continues: she has won her fourth big lottery prize!
Peggy Houseman, a regular lottery player, won the top prize of
$10,000 playing the "Goin' Green" instant-scratch game.
"It was in my purse. I don't know if that's safe or not; I kept
getting up at night checking it to see if it was still there,"
Houseman said.
Houseman, 73, a retiree from Bouton, claimed her prize Wednesday
at the Iowa Lottery's headquarters in Des Moines.
"It was Saturday night. I didn't scratch it off until about 8
that night. And then it was just unbelievable," Houseman said.
After looking at the ticket for a while to make sure it was
right, Houseman called her daughter, Pam Jacobs, to have her
verify the win.
"I kept thinking, 'That's not right, that can't be right,' so
then after a while I called my daughter and had her come over
and verify it for me," she said.
In the past, Houseman has won prizes of $5,000, $2,500, and
$2,000 with the Iowa Lottery.
Houseman bought her latest winning ticket at Bluejay Market,
2810 Willis in Perry.
She plans to use her winnings to work on her house and also
plans to save some of it.
After her win, Houseman said she plans to keep playing the
lottery.
Goin' Green is a $2 scratch game. Players win a prize by
matching any of "Your Numbers" to either "Winning Number" and
win the prize shown for that number. If players uncover the
"Dollar Bill" symbol they win double the prize shown. The
overall odds of winning in the game are 1 in 3.75.
Four prizes of $10,000 are still up for grabs in Goin’ Green as
well as 23 prizes of $500.
Since the Iowa Lottery's start in 1985, its players have won
more than $2.2 billion in prizes while the lottery has raised
more than $1.1 billion for state programs. |
