Bill Worth Claims Prize in June 14 Powerball Drawing
DES MOINES, Iowa - A Cass County man recently claimed a large lottery prize.
Bill Worth, 63, of Lewis won $10,000 in the June 14 Powerball® drawing. He purchased the
winning ticket at Casey's, 911 S.W. Seventh St. in Atlantic and claimed the prize at the Iowa
Lottery's regional office in Council Bluffs.
“I was in shock,” he said. “The [Casey's store clerk] said,
‘Well, you did win but I can't give you the prize.’ I said, ‘Why? Three
dollars isn't that much.’ She said, ‘No, it was a little bit bigger than that.’
Then she handed me the receipt…. That was the biggest number I've ever seen on a
receipt.”
Worth said a fellow truck driver who was at the store when he had his ticket checked helped to
spread the news of his big win to some other truckers right away.
“They all have cell phones and they found out before my wife did!” he said.
He plans to buy some furniture for his wife with his prize money. He is also planning on having
a tree cut down in his backyard.
The winning Powerball numbers for the June 14 drawing were: 9-11-20-31-50. The Powerball
was 14. The Power Play® multiplier was 4.
If Worth had chosen to play the Power Play, he would have won $40,000!
Players can increase their prizes with the Power Play (except the jackpot) up to five times. The
cost is $1 per play.
Just before the Powerball numbers are drawn, the Power Play wheel is spun. Slots on the wheel
list the numbers 2 through 5, indicating the amount prizes (except the jackpot) will be multiplied if
that number is drawn.
Winning numbers may be checked by calling the lottery at (515) 725-7900 from 8 a.m. to 4:30
p.m. Winning numbers may also be checked through the winning numbers' hot line at (515)
