Herbert Solano III Wins Top Prize of $10,000 Playing "10X The Money" Scratch Game

DES MOINES, Iowa – While washing clothes at a Laundromat, an Eddyville man bought a scratch ticket and won $10,000.

Herbert Solano III won playing the "10X The Money" instant-scratch game. He purchased his winning ticket at Wigg's Country Store, 1308 A Ave. E. in Oskaloosa, a gas station right next to the Laundromat.

"I had to look at it like a thousand times," Solano said.

Solano, 29, who is currently unemployed, was with his best friend, Harmony, when he scratched off the ticket. The two of them called friends and family to tell them the big news.

"The first person I told was my mom. They all thought we were kidding," he said.

Solano claimed his prize Monday at the Iowa Lottery's headquarters in Des Moines.

Solano and his friend planned to use the winnings to go on a shopping spree.

Players try to win a prize in 10X The Money, a $2 scratch game, by matching any of "Your Numbers" to any of the "Winning Numbers" to win the prize shown for that number. If players find the "10X" symbol, players win 10 times the prize shown for that symbol. Prizes in the game range from $2 to $10,000. The game has overall odds of winning of 1 in 3.98.

Seven top prizes of $10,000 are still available in 10X The Money, as well as more than 25 prizes of $500, and more than 660 prizes of $80.

Since the Iowa Lottery's inception in 1985, more than $2.2 billion has been awarded in prizes and more than $1.1 billion has been raised for state programs.
