DES MOINES, Iowa - A Waukon woman won a top prize of $30,000 playing her favorite Iowa Lottery scratch ticket - "Crossword."
Janice Winter, 76, said she was home with her 100-year-old mother when she scratched the ticket. The two women could not believe what had happened.
"I said, 'I think I've got a good one here!'" Winter said. "And I just kept getting more words and I couldn't believe it."
Winter drove across town to tell her children the good news also.
"They wished it had been theirs, but they were happy!" Winter said with a laugh as she claimed her prize Aug. 30 at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Mason City.
Winter said she plans to use some of her winnings to pay bills as well as purchase a new television and refrigerator.
Winter purchased her winning ticket at Casey's, 516 Rossville Road in Waukon.
