DES MOINES, Iowa - A Polk City man won a top prize of $50,000 playing the lottery's "Peppermint Super Crossword" instant-scratch game.

Doug Carlberg claimed his prize Monday at the Iowa Lottery's headquarters in Des Moines. He purchased his winning ticket at Quik Trip, 4575 N.W. Second St. in Des Moines.

Since the lottery's start in 1985, its players have won more than $3 billion in prizes while the lottery has raised more than $1.4 billion for the state programs that benefit all Iowans.
