DES MOINES, Iowa - A Fort Dodge man had his winning scratch ticket checked at a local convenience store and learned he won a lot more than he was expecting.

"(I) scratched it and I thought I won $50 and come to find out there's a lot more zeroes behind it," said Justin Bass, 30.

Bass, who works for Wilbert Burial Vaults, won $50,000 on an "Instantly Rich" scratch ticket he purchased Saturday at Casey's, 1001 W. Main St. in Lake City.

"I double-checked it like six times before I called anybody," he said.

Bass claimed his prize Monday at the Iowa Lottery's headquarters in Des Moines. He claimed the fifth of 10 top prizes of $50,000 available in the Instantly Rich game.

Bass said he plans to pay off bills with his winnings.

Instantly Rich is a $5 scratch game. If a player reveals a "thumbs up" symbol, they win the prize shown below that symbol. If a player reveals a "chest" symbol, they win double the prize shown below that symbol. The overall odds of winning a prize in the game are 1 in 3.41.

Five top prizes of $50,000 are still up for grabs in Instantly Rich, as well as 19 prizes of $1,000, 49 prizes of $200 and 44 prizes of $100.
