Richard and Judy Cordle Win Top Prize Playing "Iowa's
$100,000 Cash Game"
DES MOINES, Iowa – An Urbandale woman walked into her local
Dahl's grocery store looking for a recipe, but found much more.
Judy Cordle decided to check her Iowa's $100,000 Cash Game
ticket while looking for a holiday recipe and discovered she had
won the top prize!
"The clerk said, 'I think you better just forget about that
recipe!'" Judy said.
Judy and her husband Richard Cordle won the top prize in the
December 14 drawing of Iowa's $100,000 Cash Game. The winning
numbers that night were: 6-8-19-21-32. The Cordles' ticket
matched all five numbers to win the top prize.
The couple likes to play three of Iowa's top lottery games -
Powerball, Hot Lotto and Iowa's $100,000 Cash Game.
"We never buy the extra play, but I'm going to now!" Judy said,
referring to the multiplier options for Powerball (Power Play)
and Hot Lotto (Sizzler).
After discovering the win, Judy called Richard at work.
"She said, 'I think I won a jackpot.' I said, 'Sure, I know, a
couple free tickets or $10 or something. So when I had a chance
I went home and saw the ticket, saw the receipt and oh boy!
Never in my wildest dreams! Way to go, baby!" Richard said.
The Cordles have told Judy's brother, their daughter and a few
good friends about their win. Judy said they all say, "Are you
kidding me?"
On their way to claim their prize, the Cordles joked about being
able to find the Lottery office in Des Moines.
"Every day I'd drive by and I'd think, 'Oh wow, I'd like to walk
in there!' And now we're here!" Judy said.
The couple was presented with an oversized check by Lottery CEO
Terry Rich Friday at the Iowa Lottery's headquarters in Des
Moines.
"You have no idea what this means to us," Judy said.
The couple plans to use some of their winnings to make payments
on their house and vehicle and give their daughter a big
Christmas gift.
"We are going to lunch, too," Judy laughed.
"It's finally sinking in. When I saw it was actually true, it
was a shock," Richard said.
The couple said they were going to try to wait until Christmas
to break the news to the rest of the family.
Before leaving Lottery headquarters, the Cordles purchased their
three tickets for the next drawings.
They purchased their winning ticket at Dahl's, 8700 Hickman Road
in Clive.
