Wendy Dale Wins Top Prize Playing "Super 7's" Scratch Game
DES MOINES, Iowa - An Ames woman said she feels lucky and blessed to win the top prize of $14,000 playing the "Super 7's" scratch game, and vows to use her prize money wisely.
Wendy Dale, 33, said she doesn't play lottery games often, so the win came as a real shock to her.
"I first thought it was a fourteen, and then I kept scratching and there was another zero, and then another zero and then another zero," Dale said. "I'm still in shock."
Dale said since she doesn't play often, she just picks her tickets randomly, but she really liked the look of the Super 7's ticket.
"I don't really buy lottery tickets that often and I just picked one. I had never played that one and it was shiny," Dale said with a laugh.
Dale said she's had a hard time believing she was the winner of a $14,000 lottery prize, so it hasn't really hit her yet.
"I'm still just shocked. My husband's like that, too. He's very calm. But it will hit us," she said.
Dale claimed her prize Wednesday at the Iowa Lottery's headquarters in Des Moines. She said she hasn't told anyone but her mom, her husband, Jason, and her neighbor, Carl, about her win.
"I was waiting to see if it was officially legit. I just wanted to make sure," she said.
Dale recently moved to Iowa. She said she plans to use some of her winnings to help pay off medical bills and to help with expenses until she can get her dental hygienist license for the state of Iowa.
Dale purchased her winning ticket at Almost Always Open, 419 Lincoln Way in Ames.
