Hear Lance tell his story.
DES MOINES, Iowa - A Waukee man won the top prize of $30,000 playing the lottery's "Racing To Riches" instant-scratch game.
Lance Studer, 34, said he was in his home office when he scratched the winning ticket and thought he had done something wrong at first.
"I took it to my wife and told her I think I had a problem and she said, 'I don't think you did it right,' so I took it back to the store and they said I won," Studer explained.
Studer claimed his prize Tuesday at the Iowa Lottery's headquarters in Des Moines. He purchased his winning ticket at Kum & Go, 350 E. University in Waukee.
Studer, who sells seed corn, said his wife, Amy, is still skeptical about his big win.
"I don't think she believed me yet – till I come home with the check!" Studer laughed.
He said he plans to use that check to pay off his car and some other bills.
"Sounds fun!" Studer added.
While he doesn't consider himself a lucky person, Studer admitted he was in the right place at the right time in buying the winning ticket.
