Davenport Woman Wins $30,000 Lottery Prize

Judy Sorensen Wins Top Prize In "Lucky Lines" Scratch Game

Judy Sorensen   Hear Judy tell her story.

DES MOINES, Iowa - A Davenport woman won the top prize of $30,000 playing the lottery's "Lucky Lines" instant-scratch game.

Judy Sorensen didn't think she was playing the game right as she uncovered her win.

"I got the 30,000 and I thought, 'This can't be right. I must have screwed up,' so I double-checked it and triple-checked it, but I was right, so here I am," she explained.

Since Judy's husband, Nick, is a manager at a local Hy-Vee store, she said she wanted him there when she had the ticket validated.

"I said, 'Wait, you've gotta see this.' He says, 'How much?' and I said, 'No, just let the picture tell you,' so it was an exciting moment for both of us," she said.

Sorensen, 48, claimed her prize June 22 at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids. She purchased her winning ticket at Ram Food and Gas, 3108 W. Central Park Ave. in Davenport.

Judy, who is a teacher at Wilson Elementary School in Davenport, said she plans to pay some bills with her winnings and contribute to a college fund for her children.

"Winning a huge prize has never happened, so this is pretty cool," she said.
