Sherry Gibbons Claims $30,000 Prize from July 28 Hot Lotto® Drawing
DES MOINES, Iowa - A Fort Dodge woman won a $30,000 Hot Lotto prize playing the numbers of her grandchildren's birthdays.
Sherry Gibbons, 50, said she's been playing the same numbers for about five years, and was shocked when she discovered how much she'd won. Gibbons said she and a friend stopped at Casey's, 1133 S. 22nd St. in Fort Dodge to buy their tickets for the July 28 drawing.
"The next morning I got up at 4:44 and checked my tickets on the Internet. I called her right away and said, 'Do you remember yesterday afternoon when we bought our tickets? I won thirty-thousand dollars!'" Gibbons said.
Gibbons, who works for Electrolux in Fort Dodge, immediately pulled her husband, Craig, out of bed to check the numbers.
"We've talked about it all the time and I said, 'Give me a reason that I have to get up out of bed. Thursday was the day!'" Craig said.
Gibbons has also told all her children and several others the good news. She said everyone knows Hot Lotto is her favorite game, so most of them have believed her.
Gibbons plans to put her winnings into savings.
She claimed her prize Friday at the Iowa Lottery's headquarters in Des Moines.
The winning numbers in the $3.91 million Hot Lotto jackpot drawing on July 28 were: 3-10-19-22-28 and Hot Ball 2. There was no jackpot winner for the July 28 drawing.
Gibbons won a $10,000 prize by matching the first five numbers but missing the Hot Ball on her ticket. Because she had added the Sizzler® option to her ticket, Gibbons multiplied her $10,000 win by three to claim a $30,000 prize.
