Connie Hale Wins $10,000 Prize in the August 7 Powerball® Drawing
DES MOINES, Iowa - A Davenport woman awakened to a pleasant surprise when her husband got her out of bed to celebrate a $10,000 Powerball win.
Connie Hale, 59, said she had gone to bed when her husband decided to check their Powerball numbers online.
"He came in and woke me up and I didn't believe him," Hale said. "I thought he was teasing me. He has before."
Hale said after she checked the numbers herself and knew her husband wasn't teasing, her mind started rushing with thoughts of how she could use her winnings. She said she plans to use some of her winnings to pay bills and is thinking of taking a trip as well.
Hale, who is a work experience liaison for Davenport schools, has been playing the same numbers on Powerball for a while now, she said. She chose them from important dates in her life.
"It was exciting because I always thought, you know, what the chances of winning are, but if you don't try it you're not going to get anywhere," she said.
Hale has told her children, her siblings and her mother the good news about her win. She said they're all very excited for her.
"People tell you the odds are against you, but if you don't play, there's no chance!" Hale said.
Hale claimed her prize Wednesday at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids. She purchased her winning ticket at Express Lane Gas and Food Mart, 1909 N. Harrison St. in Davenport.
