Betty Woolsoncroft Wins Top Prize Playing "Iowa's $100,000 Cash Game"
DES MOINES, Iowa - A Council Bluffs woman was shocked to learn her "Iowa's $100,000 Cash Game" ticket was a winner; she was even more shocked to learn just how much she'd won.
Betty Woolsoncroft, 76, said she never expected to win the top prize of $100,000.
"I didn't think it was that much. I thought it was maybe a thousand or something!" Woolsoncroft said.
When the clerk told her there was a winner from Eddy's, 503 Ninth Ave. in Council Bluffs, Woolsoncroft remembered that's where she had purchased her ticket. So she called the Lottery hotline to see if she had the winning numbers.
"I said, 'Hang on, let me look,' and sure enough I had all the numbers," she said.
Woolsoncroft called her husband into the house from mowing the lawn to tell him the good news. She said he was unsure of the win at first, too.
"He said, 'Are you sure?' He wanted to go get it!" said Woolsoncroft.
Woolsoncroft said she plans to use some of her winnings to put a new shower in her bathroom as well as help out her children.
Woolsoncroft, who is retired, claimed her prize Thursday at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Council Bluffs.
