Jennifer Konrardy Wins $10,000 Prize in the September 8 Powerball® Drawing
DES MOINES, Iowa - When a Jackson County woman decided to check her Powerball tickets after the September 8 drawing, she discovered she'd won a $10,000 prize.
Jennifer Konrardy, 48, said she just decided to check her ticket on a whim when she found out she'd won.
"Thursday I thought, 'Oh I need to get me a pop. I might as well have them check my lottery tickets,'" Konrardy said. "It said, 'You're a winner!' and I said, 'Oh, did I win two or three dollars?' And she said, 'Oh no, it's quite a bit more than that. It's ten thousand dollars!'"
Konrardy, who is from La Motte, said she couldn't believe she'd won that much money.
"I just stood there. I was just stunned. People around me were clapping and yelling, 'Yeah!'" she said.
Konrardy immediately called her husband to tell him the good news.
"He was excited, of course. I called my daughter and she thought I was lying," she joked.
The winning numbers for the $63.7 million jackpot on Sept. 8 were 10-35-39-51-57 and Powerball 20. The Power Play multiplier was five. Konrardy matched four of the first five numbers drawn and the Powerball to win a $10,000 prize. Had she added the Power Play to her ticket, Konrardy would have multiplied her $10,000 win by five to win a total of $50,000. She said she has since started adding the Power Play to her ticket.
"I'll definitely make sure I have the Power Play also," Konrardy said.
Konrardy, who is a recruiter for Alliant Energy, said she plans to put her winnings into savings for now. She said she dreams of winning really big someday and being able to share the wealth with her family and friends.
Konrardy claimed her prize Thursday at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids. She purchased her winning ticket at Kwik Stop Food Mart, 2320 Gateway Drive in Dubuque. There was no jackpot winner for the Sept. 8 drawing.
