DES MOINES, Iowa - A Shelby County woman said she wasn't expecting to realize she'd won a $10,000 lottery prize while buying gas.

Janet Lefeber of Portsmouth said she was putting gas in her car when the store clerk recognized her as a regular player there and asked if she had any tickets from the Sept. 29 Powerball drawing.

"They came out and said, 'Somebody won $10,000; have you bought any tickets lately?' And I said, 'Yeah, I think so,'" Lefeber said. "So I got in my car and started signing my tickets. And I took 'em in and that's when I found out."

Lefeber, who works in Harlan at CDS Magazine Fulfillment, said she called her husband right away with the good news.

"'No, you didn't!' is what he told me," Lefeber said with a laugh.

Lefeber said she plans to put her winnings into savings until she can decide what to do with her prize money.

Lefeber claimed her prize Friday at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Council Bluffs. She purchased her winning ticket at Harlan Amoco, 2111 23rd St. in Harlan.
