DES MOINES, Iowa - A Mason City man was so shocked he'd won the top prize playing "Reindeer Bingo," he headed straight back to the retailer to have it validated.

Tony Champney, 31, said he couldn't believe his eyes when he saw he'd won the top prize of $25,000 on the new holiday instant-scratch ticket, so he literally ran back to the convenience store to have it checked.

"I thought it was a dream," Champney said. "I had them run it to double-check the winnings and I was really happy."

Champney, who works at Burger King in Mason City, said his wife was in the room when he initially scratched the ticket.

"She almost fainted," Champney said.

Champney said while he didn't believe he'd won at first, everyone he's told has believed him. He said they've all been very excited for him.

Champney claimed his prize Tuesday at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Mason City. He purchased his winning ticket at Casey's, 813 N. Federal Ave. in Mason City.

Champney said he plans to use some of his winnings to pay bills as well as purchase a new vehicle.
