Robert Greenway Wins Top Prize of $10,000 Playing "Cool Cash" Scratch Game
DES MOINES, Iowa - A Dallas County man was shocked that the number 13 on his "Cool Cash" instant-scratch ticket matched the number he needed to win the top prize of $10,000.
Robert Greenway, 53, said he drove to Kum & Go to have a slice of pizza and get gas. While he was there, he decided to pick up a few scratch tickets.
"I got a free paper and a free soda, so I decided to buy some scratch tickets. Number 13, which is not supposed to be lucky, was a match to ten thousand dollars," Greenway said.
Greenway, who is from De Soto, said he immediately had the cashier validate the ticket for him. He purchased the ticket at Kum & Go, 1203 Guthrie in De Soto.
"I said, 'I think you gave me a ten thousand dollar winner, young man!'" he said.
After validating his win, Greenway went home to tell his family and friends the good news.
"My little girl says, 'Daddy, are you joking? You've joked about this before,'" he said.
Greenway, who is an independent insurance broker, said he plans to use some of his winnings to pay for a trip for his daughter as well as pay bills.
Greenway claimed his prize Monday at the Iowa Lottery's headquarters in Des Moines.
