Ray Stock, Jr. Wins Top Prize Playing "Holiday Crossword" Scratch Game
DES MOINES, Iowa - An Ankeny man won the top prize of $50,000 playing the lottery's "Holiday Crossword" instant-scratch game.
Ray Stock, Jr. claimed his prize Wednesday at the Iowa Lottery's headquarters in Des Moines. He purchased his winning ticket at Hy-Vee Gas, 414 N. Ankeny Blvd. in Ankeny.
Holiday Crossword is a $5 scratch game. Players win a prize by uncovering at least three complete words in the ticket's two puzzle areas. If a player uncovers all six letters in the "bonus word" box, he/she wins the prize shown in the prize box. If a player uncovers 10 words, he/she wins $50,000. The overall odds of winning in the game are 1 in 3.65.
Eleven top prizes of $50,000 are left in Holiday Crossword, as well as 10 prizes of $5,000, more than 170 prizes of $500, and more than 1,000 prizes of $100.
Lottery players can use nonwinning tickets in the Holiday Crossword game and other holiday-themed scratch games for a chance to win some of the season's hottest electronics and cash prizes in the "Tech The Halls" holiday promotion that runs through Jan. 18. The promotion offers 250 prizes of Sony® electronics along with 25 cash prizes ranging from $500 to $5,000. Players can enter the promotion using nonwinning tickets in the seven holiday-themed instant-scratch games available this season in Iowa. Different levels of prizes are involved for different tickets.
