DES MOINES, Iowa - A Linn County woman said she was ecstatic to win the top prize playing a game her boyfriend usually has good luck with.
Samantha Freeman, 26, said she usually just watches her boyfriend, Andrew, play the lottery's "Crossword" tickets, but this time she decided to scratch a "Holiday Crossword" ticket herself and ended up winning the top prize of $50,000.
"We've just kind of stared at it the last two days," Freeman said as she claimed her prize Wednesday at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids.
Freeman, who is from Fairfax, said she counted the words over and over again to make sure she was seeing things correctly.
"I think we're just now settling on it after we ran it through the machine. We just kept going, 'What if it's not real?'" she said.
Freeman, who works for a credit union in Iowa City, said she hasn't told any other family or friends yet but she's sure they won't believe her at first.
Freeman said she plans to put her winnings into savings until she can decide what to use the money for. She purchased her winning ticket at Casey's, 130 41st Ave. Drive S.W. in Cedar Rapids.
