DES MOINES, Iowa - A Muscatine woman said she was lucky she tried a different ticket after winning a $10 prize playing her favorite ticket, because she ended up winning the top prize of $15,000 playing the "Triple Diamonds" scratch game.

Laura Ward, 48, said she won $10 playing her favorite "Bingo" game and went back to the retail store to buy a couple more with her winnings. When the retailer was out of Bingo tickets, she decided to try Triple Diamonds instead.

"My daughter was with me at her house and the first ticket I scratched was the winning ticket," Ward said.

Ward, who is a housekeeper for Holiday Inn in Muscatine, said she was thankful her daughter was there with her to help verify the ticket was a winner.

"I had to have her come and make sure I was seeing what I thought I saw," she said. "I thought I was winning like fifteen dollars until I finished scratching it."

Ward said she didn't hesitate to tell all her friends and family the good news and she says they're all very excited for her.

"I'm glad they didn't have the Bingo, let's put it that way," she said.

Ward said she plans to use some of her winnings to purchase a new vehicle as well as buy gifts for the holidays.

Ward claimed her prize Nov. 22 at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids. She purchased her winning ticket at Cigarette Outlet, 1504 Park Ave. in Muscatine.
