Jerry Zinn Wins Top Prize of $100,000 Playing "Merry Money" Scratch Game
DES MOINES, Iowa - After a lucky win at a northern Iowa casino, a Palo Alto county man purchased a "Merry Money" instant-scratch ticket and ended up winning the game's top prize of $100,000.
Jerry Zinn, 54, said he won a couple hundred dollars at the Diamond Jo Casino in Northwood, so he decided to use part of his winnings to buy some lottery tickets and was shocked when the second one turned out to be a big winner.
"The second one I read was the one that won," Zinn said. "And I couldn't believe it, so I took it back to verify it and started jumping up and down."
Zinn, who is from West Bend, has told a few of his family and friends about the win. He said they're all very excited for him.
"It's the greatest thing that's ever happened to me, I think," Zinn said.
Zinn, who owns Mr. Zinn's Hair Styling in West Bend, said he plans to use some of his winnings to pay bills as well as invest.
"Pinch me, oh my gosh!" he said.
Zinn claimed his prize Monday at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Storm Lake. He purchased his winning ticket at West Bend Cenex, 12 First Ave. N.E. in West Bend.
