Council Bluffs Man Turns $10 Win Into $20,000 Lottery Prize

Robert Osborne Wins Big Prize Playing "$35 Million Cash Spectacular" Scratch Game

Robert Osborne   Hear Robert tell his story.

DES MOINES, Iowa - A Council Bluffs man was never expecting to win a $20,000 prize during his morning coffee routine with his best friend.

Robert Osborne, 49, said he used a $10 lottery win to purchase a "$35 Million Cash Spectacular" scratch game and ended up winning big.

"I scratched it right there and I couldn't hardly believe it," Osborne said. "I was like, 'No way!'"

Osborne was having coffee with his friend Harry when he discovered his win. They were still at the store where Osborne purchased his ticket, so he had it validated right away.

"I handed it back to the kid and he ran it through the machine real quick," Osborne said. "He was like, 'Wow. No way!' He couldn't believe it either."

After having it validated, Osborne returned to the table where he and his friend were having coffee to tell him the good news.

"He was real happy for me," Osborne said.

Osborne, who is a commercial manager for an auto parts store in Council Bluffs, said he plans to use some of his winnings to purchase a new washer/dryer set and to pay off his vehicle.

Osborne claimed his prize Dec. 13 at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Council Bluffs. He purchased his winning ticket at Sapp Brother's Oasis, 2608 S. 24th St. in Council Bluffs.
