Kimberly Doolin Wins the Top Prize Playing "Crossword" Scratch Game
DES MOINES, Iowa - A Cedar Rapids woman said she was shocked to discover she'd won the top prize of $30,000 playing the lottery's "Crossword" instant-scratch game.
Kimberly Doolin, 38, said she was all alone when she scratched off the winning ticket.
"I scratched my last ticket and I maybe thought I won three hundred," Doolin said. "And I started counting the words and I'm like, 'Oh it's thirty thousand!'"
Doolin said she couldn't stand to be home alone anymore after discovering her win, so she called her boyfriend, Victor Seward.
"I'm jumping up and down and I called my boyfriend and said, 'Come home! Come home quick!'" Doolin said.
Doolin said she was waiting to tell the rest of her family and friends until after claiming her prize at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Cedar Rapids on Wednesday.
"I wanted to make sure I was a winner. They'll be happy for me; I always say I'm going to win and they never believe me!" Doolin said.
Doolin said she plans to use some of her winnings to pay bills.
