Judith Holdren Claims Prize from Feb. 25 Mega Millions® Drawing
DES MOINES, Iowa - A Shelby County woman said she can't wait to use her $10,000 Mega Millions® prize to visit her grandchildren out of state.
Judith Holdren, 60, won her prize in the Feb. 25 Mega Millions drawing. She was at her local Hy-Vee store when she had the ticket validated.
"It came up that I was a winner and the ticket said 'file a claim,' so I thought maybe it was $100 or something," Holdren said.
Holdren said the cashier double-checked the winner's receipt to see what she had won and it was in fact a lot more than $100.
"Tatum was running it through the machine and she said, 'No, it's a thousand.' And then she was counting zeros and said, 'No, it's ten thousand!'" Holdren said.
Holdren said at the time she had her ticket validated she was in shock and didn't quite know what to do. But it didn't take long for word to spread in her hometown of Harlan.
"My husband couldn't believe it. Then I went into the beauty parlor to have my nails done and they all knew already. And people from the bank were in there so they all know," Holdren said with a laugh.
Holdren said she works as an office manager for Jorgenson Chiropractic in Harlan and she's sure a few patients have heard as well.
Holdren claimed her prize March 4 at the Iowa Lottery's regional office in Council Bluffs. She purchased her winning ticket at Hy-Vee, 2003 Chatburn Ave. in Harlan.
She said she definitely plans to use some of her winnings to visit her grandchildren in Florida and California.
The winning numbers in the Mega Millions drawing on Feb. 25 were: 4-5-17-19-50 and Mega Ball 7. The Megaplier® number that night was 4. Holdren's ticket matched the four white balls and the Mega Ball to win a $10,000 prize. Had she added the Megaplier option to her ticket, Holdren would have multiplied her $10,000 win by four to claim a $40,000 prize.
Players can multiply their prizes (except the jackpot) with the Megaplier up to four times. The cost is $1 per play.
